Young solar graduate kick starts solar system and cooker business

Abdul graduated from the 10-day solar energy course, and it changed his life.

Abdul is one of the graduates of the 10-day solar energy training courses. Abdul told us how the solar training had provided him with experience and a high level of skill in the solar energy sector. This enabled him to make significant economic improvements in his life. A few months after he graduated from the training, he installed 19 solar systems in his area.

Abdul said, ‘This training impacted my life, especially the solar cooker portion. I was so astonished by the idea of the solar cooker. I felt that this topic was specifically designed to help me. At that time, I faced many problems obtaining cooking gas, both because of its price and because it was frequently unavailable. Once I received the information about the solar cooker, I made one for my family and used it to cook rice. The word about it spread in the area, so people came asking me to make solar cookers, and I helped them with pleasure.

So far, I have built more than 16 solar cookers for people, some of them from nearby villages.

I feel happy and thankful for ITDC because now I can serve people in my community and save money that I before had to spend on cooking gas. In addition, this course has helped create an additional source of income for me, even if a small one, from my work in installing solar systems and building solar cookers.’
