Ishaaq is 56 years old, a bus driver, and a father of seven children. He and his family were displaced from Al Hudaydah and lived for a few days with relatives before renting a bus to commence work and a house to support his family. Shortly afterward, he had a severe car accident that badly affected his spine. His family sold every valuable thing they possessed to aid his recovery. But they were told by doctors that he had to travel outside of Yemen for treatment, which the family could not afford.

Ishaaq was paralyzed and unable to work or function normally. His family had to move to the makeshift Zahrat Al-Khalil camp in Dar Saad. The situation worsened for the family.

Now they were without any help and had only limited access to food. With Ishaaq’s health condition deteriorating more, the family was in crisis. It led to that they had to stop sending the children to school.

When the ITDC project team registered the family to receive food baskets, Ishaaq’s wife cried out in great joy because this was the first time that they received aid from a humanitarian organization. During the first distribution, the family was so overjoyed that they began to gain hope for a better future. After receiving the second basket, Ishaaq’s wife said;

“We are now able to buy medicine for Ishaaq, and my children don’t have to sleep hungry anymore. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, ITDC. You are the hand of God in this world. I pray to God to protect you at all times.”
