“ITDC saved me from child marriage.”

Daughters dropped out of school due to poverty.

Khalil is of the marginalized community group (“muhamasheen”).

He and his family were displaced from his village in Taiz due to the intense fighting. He needs an eye operation to be able to work, so his wife labours as a domestic cleaner to provide basic food for the family, but this is taking a toll on her aging body.

His daughters dropped out of school due to their poverty and inability to afford uniforms, books, supplies and school fees. After a suitor came to the door, one of his daughters (aged 15) decided to get married in order to reduce the financial burden on her father, who struggles to provide food for the family.

But with the food basket provision over multiple months, the family started feeling secure and less desperate. They cancelled the engagement. As the daughter shared, “I am 15 years old and still a child. ITDC saved me from early marriage”
