Layla (not her real name) has no source of regular income. But sometimes, she finds temporary jobs for little cash to provide for the basic needs of her children.
Humiliated and rejected
Layla lived in a room in her husband’s family’s house, but she was abused and subjected to cruelty regularly. The family eventually kicked her out of the house and forced her to return to her parent’s village.
Back in her home village, Layla had no place to live. Layla struggled to find shelter for her children and herself until a few villagers graciously tended to her needs and constructed a small house for Layla and her children. Despite the lack of furnishing, she was warmed by the kind villagers and relieved to have a roof over her family’s head.
A new start
When ITDC arrived at her village with food baskets, Layla and her children were among the 63 families that received food baskets. All of the families were overjoyed, including Layla, who now had enough food to feed her children and herself. The ITDC’s help with the food baskets not only provided sustenance to Layla’s family. It also gave her the chance to save extra cash she could use to buy her children clothes and furnishings for her newly built home.
