We recently met Amir, a father of two who was once a proud provider for his family but became displaced due to the conflict. He had to resort to selling brooms and hats made from palm branches to make ends meet, but while traveling to a distant village to do so, he fell and injured his spine. The injury left him with a disability that made it difficult for him to walk and work, leaving his wife to take on the responsibility of begging for food and money.

Amir’s wife shared with us the heartbreaking reality of their situation, saying “When begging, I am exposed to insults, harassment, and abuse by others. Our daughter is also vision impaired. I am unable to provide for their treatment, not even food, and so we don’t eat full or proper meals. We have only bread and tea if there are no leftover scraps from others for us to eat. We cannot afford school materials for our children, and so I think they will be prevented from attending school.”

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to provide Amir’s family with food baskets that helped alleviate their hunger and allowed them to stop begging. Amir’s wife expressed her gratitude, saying “Thanks to the organization and the food basket provision, we rose from a life of humiliation and returned to dignity.”
