Samah is one of the many Yemeni people who have faced unimaginable challenges due to the ongoing crisis in Yemen. She is 30 years old and lives in a village in Taiz. After marrying at an early age and having two children, her life took a dark turn when she and her husband began having problems. The situation deteriorated to the point where they separated, and Samah had to move back in with her parents.
But Samah’s problems did not end there. One day, her father came to her with devastating news: the custody court had ruled that her two children would go to their father. Samah was devastated and fell into a deep depression. Despite being on medication, she felt helpless and lost.
The crisis in Yemen has led to a breakdown in social systems and institutions, leaving people like Samah with limited resources and support. However, ITDC recognizes that hope is not lost. Through our programs like the PSS program, we provide coaching, training, and mentoring to individuals and communities in spiritual, emotional, and professional competencies. We believe in engaging, empowering, and influencing those we work with to create lasting change and a brighter future for all.
Samah’s journey through the PSS program was not easy. She was initially withdrawn and struggled to overcome the voice in her head telling her that forgetting her children was impossible. But after a few sessions, she began to change. She found the strength to talk about her suffering and even started to look for solutions. By the end of the program, Samah had experienced a profound transformation. She was no longer taking medication, had decided to live her life, and find contentment in God’s destiny for her.
Samah’s story is just one of many examples of the transformative impact that ITDC is having on communities in Yemen. Through our work, we strive to create a brighter future for Yemeni people who have been affected by the ongoing crisis. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve and make a positive impact, and we are committed to continuing our efforts until every person in Yemen can live in peace and dignity.
