Creating Transformational Journeys

The Challenge

Each person is unique with their own preferences, personality, gifting and skills given to them to fulfill their destiny.

A person’s local culture will influence their perception, but anticipating someone’s reaction based on this alone is crude and can often be mistaken by it overlooking their individual experience and personality.

There are many examples of people who have been well equipped with a particular skill, but they fail to benefit or leverage that skill even after being trained in it. This can be due to a lack of motivation or productive attitude, an inability to work well within a team, or a conflict between their values and the mindset required for the new skill. As a result factors external to both the skill and its associated training can cause the learning to produce no sustainable impact in the life of the participant.

Our Approach

ITDC focuses on getting to know the individuals as well as groups of individuals that we are engaging.

Most of our course inductions involve an interview process where we can learn about the participant – who they are and what motivates them. Then the course materials can be tailored to best connect to that person’s individual culture. Courses at ITDC take into account that participants have a wide variety of learning styles and preferences and as a result our training involves experiential and interactive components including participant demonstrations.

We believe in creating transformational journeys for our participants that go beyond the period of training.

ITDC focuses on measuring the impact of their investment in others. One such way is via interviewing training participants 4-6 months later, rather than simply via an exit survey as they walk out the door. We know that the learning experience is only the start of the journey, but to truly integrate new ideas involves coaching, mentorship and practice. We don’t ask, “What courses have you graduated from?”, but instead we ask, “How is your life different now?”

We believe that we need to address three spheres of a person’s life for lasting impact: Professional (vocational or technological skills), Social-Emotional (communication, personality and preferences), and Spiritual (values and beliefs). We seek to include elements of each sphere during every training event or interaction we have with our participants.
