The Challenge

Many relief projects have a focus that may cover a wide section of the community, but the assistance is often narrowed into one particular sector.

Despite achieving the project outcomes, the community can still feel that the assistance they received was limited, since many other sectors in need were not addressed.

Our Approach

ITDC seeks to engage communities with multi-sector programming.

This requires assessing not just a community’s food security situation, but seeking to understand their other needs by analyzing their educational, energy, livelihood and social-relational status etc. By starting with the community and their particular needs, instead of addressing one need within a number of communities, ITDC is able to design and achieve combined outcomes across sectors.

A community engagement approach may involve multiple project components, but the combined result leverages relief, recovery and development responses within a single community and thus addresses sources of adversity, underdevelopment and social friction.
