Adherence to International Standards

The Basis

In order to ensure that ITDC is designing, planning and implementing projects of the highest quality, we apply and adhere to several international standards.

The first is the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS) which sets out nine commitments that organizations and individuals involved in humanitarian response can use to improve the quality and effectiveness of the assistance they provide. We abide by the SPHERE standards including the Humanitarian Charter and Protection Principles while applying the Do No Harm principles of conflict sensitivity. All our humanitarian projects are guided by the four core humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence.

As an organization we are also adopting the ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) create a unified framework for the world’s collective effort ensuring a sustainable, just and secure world without poverty. As an organization we strive for holistic approaches focusing on a variety of thematic result areas that include the SDG 1 ‘End Poverty’ and 4 ‘Ensure Quality Education’. These priority goals are visible in our organizational efforts and also in our interaction with international and local partners.

In addition, ITDC also actively focuses on the SDG 2 ‘End Hunger’, 6 ‘Clean Water and Sanitation’ and 7 ‘Affordable and Sustainable Energy’. Environmental issues are historically of great importance to our organizational engagement in Yemen, especially within the domain of renewable energy. Due to ITDC’s long history in Yemen, the organization is also well known for its intentional and active engagement in the areas of gender equality as well as the promotion of peace and justice. Most of ITDC’s programming includes aspect of gender equality and peace building due to our strong conviction that to be a healthy and sustainable community all members need to be invited into an understanding of equal coexistence.
